Graham Memorial Renovation/Expansion

UNC Chapel Hill
Chapel Hill, NC

A sensitive approach to the renovation and expansion of this historic building restored many of Graham’s original design details, greatly enhanced the building’s function, and created a vibrant outdoor gathering space.

Renovation of the existing 22,000-sf building concentrated on the building exterior, the first floor lobby, and the oak-paneled Great Lounge.

Features of the renovation include:

  • 5,435-sf limestone-clad addition houses the James M. Johnston Center for Undergraduate Excellence, including classrooms, a multi-purpose ‘Commons Room,’ dining, and food preparation space.
  • Above the addition, a new open terrace offers space for student gatherings and special events.
