The multi-disciplinary facility was designed to support programs in Chemistry, Astronomy, and Physics (CAP). At 118,000-sf, the building was the largest academic building on the Appalachian campus at the time of completion, housing teaching and research laboratories, faculty offices and classrooms
In order to minimize the structure’s large mass, the building was divided into four towers, designed to reflect Appalachian’s design vision and the architectural context of the North Carolina mountains.
