J•PA worked with UNC Charlotte to evaluate the former Residence Dining Hall (RDH), located on in the South Village Sector. Originally built in 1970, the 36,435-sf facility was vacated upon the opening of the new South Village Dining Hall.
Our work included conducting a building condition assessment to identify major deficiencies and preparing a cost estimate to address them. We also provided alternative recommendations for the most effective future use of the space, along with associated costs for renovation and modernization.
After working with several different user groups and the University’s Facilities personnel, it was determined that the RDH would be repurposed to accommodate the needs of University Housing and the Catering Commissary.
J•PA’s work on the renovation included updating the building exterior; designing an inviting lobby, new offices, and conference space for University Housing; and incorporating a commercial kitchen to support the University’s catering operations.
